Director
Multicultural Educational Foundation (MEF)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of LD, the Director is responsible for the management of MEF in the local community with a priority on maintaining and developing the resources needed for the delivery of programs and activities consistent with the vision, mission and values of the MEF. The primary responsibilities of the Director will be to:
- Work in partnership with the Board of Directors in the promotion of the organization.
- Co-responsible with the Board of Directors to raise the revenue for the MEF in Chicago as approved by the Board of Directors at the Board meetings.
- Design and implement a public relations campaign for name recognition with a view of marketing the MEF.
- Manage grant-writer(s), event planner(s), other consultant(s) and/or part-time staff as needed.
- Work in partnership with the Chairman of the Board to ensure that there will be quality selection, training, development and management of staff at all levels of the local organization.
- With the Chairman of the Board as a resource, develop and manage the planning and operation of the organization through the development of SMART plans, both short and long term that will ensure proper "buy-in" by the Board of Directors.
- Be the spokesperson for Multicultural Educational Foundation in the local community.
Attitudinal, Knowledge and Skill Requirements for the Position of Director:
- Have proven history (minimum 5 years) of fund-raising and public relations of a not-for-profit organization.
- Have a working knowledge of partnering and motivating a not-for-profit board.
- Have excellent speaking, writing and reading skills to ensure that public relations and development needs are able to be met.
- Have a proven track record in organizational management with the ability to work with and manage a team of staff and volunteers.
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree preferred) in a field of endeavor related to fund-raising, public relations, not-profit management or an allied field.

Marketing Director
Old Town School of Folk Music
The Old Town School of Folk Music, the largest community school of the arts in the U.S., offers a unique opportunity for a Marketing Director who will manage all aspects of marketing and promotion strategy. Old Town School is a large and expanding nonprofit school of music and dance, and active concert presenter. We operate from three facilities in Chicago, including a new arts education building that opened in January, 2012, plus several suburban branch outlets. The School supports more than 700 weekly classes for all ages, 2 on-site music stores, 2 cafes, a resource center, an artist referral service, and an events department currently producing 300+ performances annually, as well as a large summer festival.
This position is responsible for business and market research and analysis, planning, and development. The Marketing Director oversees an annual marketing plan and budget of approximately $500,000, controlling resources and expenses, and directs the day-to-day activities of marketing staff of three and multiple vendors. He/she manages the design, development, implementation, and coordination of all promotions and advertisements including direct mail, print, social networking, internet advertising, and public relations.
This is a full-time senior-level administrative position, reporting to the Executive Director, and offering full benefits.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility and a track record of accomplishments in marketing.
- Supervisory experience is required. Must be able to direct, monitor, and evaluate the performance of marketing staff.
- Graphic design and broad computer expertise required, including PC and Mac, email, and Microsoft products. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Lyris, and Filemaker Pro a big plus. Absolutely must be internet savvy and have experience in website development, e-communications, and social media applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals, including faculty, senior-level management, executives, and Board members.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or marketing is required, advanced degree a plus.
- Personal interest in, and knowledge of, music and arts education is very helpful.

Academy for Urban School Leadership

The Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) seeks talented men and women with a passion to transform the lives of children in Chicago's high-poverty public schools. AUSL's Chicago Teacher Residency program combines teacher preparation, certification, and a Master's degree in an intensive 12-month, full-time, training paid program. As an AUSL Chicago Teacher Residency resident, you will receive:
- A full school year of teacher training. Work four days a week in the classroom at an AUSL teacher training CPS school, with full-time coaching and guidance from an experienced Mentor teacher. Internship Details
The Marketing and Communications Intern position will work with IHCC staff including Senior Management on projects including development of materials for e-blast campaigns, website updates, advocacy letters, event invitations, press releases and others. The role is ideal for a self-motivated and entrepreneurial individual interested in building a strong portfolio as a manager of a prominent non-profit's communications strategy.
Illustrative tasks expected to be accomplished:
- Assist in developing strategy, planning and drafting (Eblasts, website, letters, Media & Press Releases)
- Compile comprehensive database of relevant conferences and media contacts
- Cross reference sponsorship proposals for any marketing agreements to be included in outreach plan.
Student Qualifications:
Junior or Senior Undergraduate level business, marketing, or communications students from diverse disciplines with a focus in business marketing and communications are encouraged to apply. Students with experience in website/brochure layout and design, Internet marketing, and/or non-profit event management is preferred (not required), along with strong written, verbal, and editorial capabilities, including precise spelling and grammar.
