Advance Your Career & Increase Your
Earning Potential with an MBA!
National-Louis University and El Valor are committed
to assisting working professionals to develop the
necessary skills to become leaders in their fields. To
this end, National-Louis University and El Valor have
designed a community based MBA program created
to
increase the pool of managerial talent from historically
underrepresented populations to address the need
for
diversity in public and private sector
organizations.
El Valor and National-Louis University understand the
complexity and needs of working professionals. With
this in mind, the MBA program is taught in a cohort
model by highly qualified staff and augmented by
access to one-on-one private math tutoring, a state of
the art computer lab and access to study rooms. The
community based cohort model allows students to
develop and sustain a diverse and talented
networking base. In addition to the highly talented
members of the cohort itself, students are exposed to
a speaker's bureau and many other networking
opportunities tailored to introduce students to
influential leaders in both private and public
arenas.
The MBA program is close to where you live or work.
El Valor and National-Louis University have carefully
selected a convenient location: El Valor's Carlos H.
Cantu Center located at 2434 S. Kildare Chicago, IL
60623. Recognizing that education should not be cost
prohibitive, El Valor and National-Louis have
negotiated an unprecedented tuition rate for those
who are part of the cohort program. National-Louis
University offers an unparallel education at an
unbeatable rate.

Justice For My People: The Dr. Hector P. Garcia
Story
"Justice for My People" tells the story of Dr. Hector P.
Garcia -- Mexican Revolution refugee, medical doctor
to the barrios, decorated war veteran, civil rights
activist and presidential confidante -- as he fought to
bring attention to the Mexican American civil rights
movement. Returning to Texas with six battle stars,
Garcia found that while Mexican American veterans
had been changed by the war, prejudiced America
had not. His people faced public school segregation,
squalid living conditions in labor camps, and second
class citizenship. In 1948, Dr. Garcia founded the
American GI Forum, empowering Mexican Americans
to fight numerous legal and political battles against
discrimination. As he championed the rights of
Mexican Americans, his life would be threatened. He
would overcome personal tragedy. He would refuse
to be thwarted by political setbacks and
disappointments. Instead, he chose to peacefully
resist prejudice by building his life and work on the
foundation of the principles of the United States
Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
This program provides interviews with men and
women who worked with Garcia during those crucial
years. Archival film and photos blended with Garcia's
own voice provide memorable insights into his life
and character.

II
This documentary is a unique oral and visual history

II. Key experts, historians, and veterans -- male and

group to the war effort. Members of later generations
are also included, as they describe their efforts to
honor these men and women who sacrificed so
much, and inspired others to fight for
freedom.

"Building Bridges to Independence
for
Latinos with Disabilities and their Families: From
Advocacy to Leadership
Development"
The Fifth Annual conference for Latinos with
disabilities, families, community members, and
professionals, will address issues from education
and immigration to leadership development for
Latinos with disabilities and their families.
With the large influx of Latino immigrants, adding to an
already strong base of native Latino residents, there is
a growing need for public and private goods and
services for residents in the suburbs. Reports often
note the growing needs for housing, transportation,
education and other social services for suburban
residents. These challenges are often multiplied by
the need to address issues related to physical and
programmatic accessibility for Latinos with disabilities
living in the suburbs.
The U.S. Census 2005 American Community Survey
indicates that roughly 10%, or an estimated 7,368
residents, of Cicero have a disability; roughly 20.3 %,
or an estimated 10,042 residents, of Berwyn have a
disability; roughly 21%, or an estimated 4,464
residents, of Blue Island have a disability; roughly 18.3
%, or an estimated 3,888 residents, of Melrose Park
have a disability.
Furthermore, the experience of disability affects not
only the individual, but it also touches the family as a
whole. Issues related to health care, accessible
housing, transportation and education, for example,
often impact the individual and his or her family.
Latinos with disabilities and their families often face
language and cultural barriers and discrimination
when accessing information and services. CILD
therefore believes in the importance of providing
culturally competent conferences and educational
forums to increase awareness of the particular needs
of Latinos with disabilities and their families.
CILD is a coalition of community-based organizations
and public agencies that have rallied together to
provide education and outreach on issues affecting
Latinos with disabilities and their families. Cicero
Town President Larry Dominick will provide the
opening remarks. Rene David Luna, Team Leader of
the Community Economic Development Team at
Access Living, will be the keynote speaker.

The University of Illinois at Chicago
School of Public Health Urban - Health & Diversity
Program - Bi-Annual Conference on Career &
Education Opportunities for Minorities in Public
Health
The Bi-Annual Conference addresses the disparity in
the production of public health professionals who are
African Americans, Hispanics and Native American
(URM's). In previous years, it was estimated that
URM's constitute a majority of residents in the city of
Chicago and more than 30% in the state of Illinois;
their representation in the public health professions
was less than 10%. Our efforts encourage the
development of an educational pipeline from middle
school through undergraduate college to graduate
and professional colleges in order to correct the
disparity.
Participants will learn about the field in public health;
have breakfast and lunch with faculty, public health
students and alumni; receive information about
admissions to MPH, MS, DrPH, PhD.
